While TRON stole most of the thunder just the year before for groundbreaking special effects, The Last Starfighter was made with the best special effect technology at the time.

Now that is a movie which needs a remake.
With the new technology this can be great again!

At the time the special effects were groundbreaking. Full rendered 3D CGI from a CRAY supercomputer. It looks a bit odd now, but it blew my mind at the time. Still a really fun movie.
