Wink Will Barter For Weller Soldering gun ...

Fudge...My ancient 175watt Weller soldering gun just fizzled out. Ironic if it's a bad solder joint. Willing to trade Pinball Nirvana credits for a good used gun...C_S

Question Pinball Nirvana Credits Worth Their Weight In...?

Ya know that was kinda what I was getting at. I figured you "Faralos" would know what to do with these credits. Or where to put them. When I first joined Pinball Nirvana I thought these "virtual" credits maybe had some "virtual" value to the "virtual" pinball community. The collector in me thinks they are fun to rack up. The miser in me has yet to push the "Donate" button. In the spirit brotherhood and with reckless abandon(I Have Been Drinking) I will now give it a try...CHEERS C_S

Those are PN Arcade chips, right? You must simply have insufficient spare time in which to enjoy yourself.

It's not the time or a lack of it. It's my incompetence. I would be playing these virtual tables but I have had zero success getting one to play. Every few months I download this and that. UN-zip whatever to wherever. End up with something that wont play. Get some error message. Then give up. Next time, maybe with help from PN forum fans, I'll have better luck...C_S

How about some examples? The worst I can do is send you on a wild Q-Bert chase, and it'll at least be free.....

Shoe rental was never expensive, but otherwise occasionally chancy.....

The 'examples' I had in mind were things like:

Your rig's specs, OS, etc.
What tables;
What errors;
and so on.....

Or have you already supplicated the VP/FP elite without result?

Thanx GSGregg. I have to give VP another go. I thought I followed the help files well enough. I had some tables loaded/displayed. Then no actions or an error. It's been too long to remember the specifics. For sure I will be running fresh XP(Plus about 140 Updates) this time. I just installed a solid state drive on this 2.66Ghz dual core Dell. My last attempt at VPN was a Windows7 laptop. I appreciate any suggestions before I get started. I just noticed a banner on Pinball Nirvana home page about Virtual Pinball Install Pack.

Thumbs down Copyrights?

IPDB has removed ROM's manuals Etc. from their site. Can VPM ROMS be found elsewhere? Copyrights and the digital world are clearly incompatible. I thought I'd give 'Amazing Spiderman 2009' a try...C_S

Yeah; here at PN ( http://pinballnirvana.com/modules/Up..._PinMAME/roms/ ) and over at VPF. In some instances, forum posts have indicated that roms from IPDB are/may be outdated (I could well be incorrect on that, considering the scope of IPDB's operation---why would they not offer the most recent?).

I used Noah's VPInstaller 1.0.3 when I joined up 3.5 years ago, so I'm not familiar with Phoenixx's VIP; supposedly, there are differences in folder/file arrangement. If VIP does simplify things, though, then what the heck?

I would anticipate a move from this thread to one in which nobody barters chips for guns; besides, it gives StevOz something to do between crapbot exterminations.

Phoenixx's installer installs vp8.

The 1.0.3 installer installs vp9.

What that means is when you click a table you'll either start in vp8 or 9, depending on what you install.

Yes, I agree this has become the wrong thread for Virtual Pin installation. So I will wrap this up. I have been able to get my first table, Bally's 1979'star Trek' working thanks to the ROM page Here @ PN .Thanks for pointing me there with this link http://pinballnirvana.com/modules/Up..._PinMAME/roms/ I used Phoenixx's VIP installer.

At the Internet Pinball Data Base things have only gone a tad sour. I noticed the removal of copyrighted manuals about 2 months back. Yesterday I found some Rom's gone too. I just checked and it is only the holders of Gottlieb's legacy pressing this issue. Instead of a manual or software you just get this message
The display of this file on this web site is to note that someone tried to provide it to us, but that we are unable to make it available because the current owner of the materials, Gottlieb Development LLC, has requested we honor their intellectual property ownership and trademarks. We do not have this file! We do not want this file! Do not upload it!
Gottlieb Development LLC has — and will — aggressively pursue individuals violating their copyrights and making their Gottlieb materials available online. We do not suggest you do so on your web site.
Gottlieb materials, including parts, manuals, and ROMs, and artwork are available from the licensed Gottlieb distributors; please see the official list.
A well known source of Gottlieb materials is the Pinball Resource, email: pbr at pbresource.com

Subject: Owner of Gottlieb trademarks and copyrights - Please do not ignore this message!

Dear operator of Website http://www.ipdb.org

My name is Bob Fesjian. I am the Manager of Gottlieb Development LLC
(http://www.mondialgroup.com), the owner of the valuable Gottlieb® and
D. Gottlieb & Co.® trademarks, related copyrights, and other
associated intellectual property, including, but not limited to,
artwork, trade dress and designs (collectively referred to as the
'Gottlieb Marks').

It has been brought to our attention that you may be infringing the
Gottlieb Marks. Specifically, we have information that, without our
permission or authorization, you have been reproducing and making
available on your Website game manuals, ROM downloads, and other
documentation bearing the Gottlieb Marks.

We request and demand that you immediately cease and desist any such
infringing actions.

Now that I have made the necessary legal request, I want to suggest a
possible middle ground to satisfy our need to protect our intellectual
property and what I assume is your desire to make pinball information
available to pinball hobbyists and enthusiasts around the world.

Our main concern is that you are making available for free items that
our bona fide licensed distributor is licensed by us to sell. We want
to make you aware (as I am sure you are if you are as deeply concerned
about pinball as you appear to be) that genuine documentation bearing
the Gottlieb Marks is available for purchase from Steve Young of The
Pinball Resource, 8 Commerce Street, Poughkeepsie, New York 12603
(telephone: 845-473-7114; fax: 845-473- 7116; email:
res1gypb@verizon.net). They are our official distributor of genuine
Gottlieb spare parts and documentation for North America.

When someone downloads Gottlieb® manuals or ROM's from your site, that
is a sale that our licensee does not make. It is a lost sale to
him, and if he is to continue providing the parts and information that
all these hobbyists and enthusiasts presumably also want, it makes it
that much harder for him and us to keep Gottlieb® items on the market.

With all that said, there are some things we don't mind you posting,
provided the posting is done under our conditions, with our approval,
and with your proper acknowledgement of the ownership of the Gottlieb
Marks. If you want to discuss this further, please contact me,
by telephone if at all possible. I will be back in my office on
Tuesday, Sept. 2.

We are not ogres nor are we unknown to people in the pinball industry.
You can check with people like Tim Ferrante, Shay Assad, Nancy and Ron
Webb, and Steve Young that we are ready to make arrangements that are
fair to both sides. We absolutely want the Gottlieb® name out there,
but we want to make sure the Gottlieb Marks are not diluted by
unauthorized and improper use.

In the meantime, please acknowledge to us within 10 days that you will
be taking the actions we have requested and demanded in this letter.
We reserve our right to pursue all available remedies under the
applicable Federal laws protecting our intellectual property rights in
the Gottlieb Marks.

We have seen this BS before. Like the music industry Gottlieb(whats left of it) is shooting it's self in the ass. When the music biz decided to prosecute music lovers it turned millions of people away from music as their major form of entertainment. These companys need to realize that anything that increases interest in their field is good for business in the long run. C_S

I know that Gottleib took all their manuals offline for 'copyright' reasons
but from what I understand the roms are still there plus all other manuals for the other companies pins (Williams, Bally, etc)
but if you still can't locate something go over to vpforums.org
that site has many of the roms now and we can help you find manuals if need be

Gary Stern told me about a resurgence in pinball. You think it had anything to do with people like us keeping things alive?

The problem is they're so fixed on protecting what's theirs, they miss the fact that we're bringing awareness of their product. If you're protecting Gottlieb's assets, does that mean you're going to start making Gottlieb games again? If not and you're just sitting on their stuff for whatever reason- who gives a s***!

You know why there's a resurgence in pinball? Because people like us played vp, and now we want the real thing!! As good as vp is, it's still computer pinball!

If money were no object, do you think people would be playing vp? NO!! They'd have the real thing.
