I donít have a definite answer for this problem only possible solutions. Does the sound tests work ok? Reseating the socketed chips might help and recapping the audio board might be the solution.

Recapping is the replacing of the electrolytic capacitors on a circuit board.

What kind of equipment would be recommended for that, year 2018?

A 25 - 30 watt soldering iron with a pencil tip, de-soldering braid, a vacuum solder sucker, and a good quality rosin core solder made for electronics. The expensive de-soldering stations are used by professional technicians that do a lot of board work, but arenít needed for a hobbyist .
