Bally game show GI problem

Just picked up a Bally Game Show and am having trouble with the GI lights in the back box. The lights don't work but when I diconnect the J5 power harness on the interconnect board the lights come on but then the flippers and other things don't work. When I plug the harness back in the lights go out and everything else works, there is a small circuit board with a relay on it on the inner back box door that clicks when the harness is plugged it. I noticed that the relay has been replaced before and the original relay was a 24vdc 13 amp and the new relay is a 24vdc 10 amp, could the relay be causing the GI lights not to work or should I be looking elsewhere?

Me, well I'm always looking for a functional work around. General Illumination circuits (usually 6.3 volts) can be bypassed or jumpered to to come on at an appropriate time. I know that "The Quick Fix" bugs some repair purists. They say "what about the next guy that has to work on the machine?" Though a valid point...In this case it is probably easier than figuring out why your relay seems to be working backward.

P.S. The relay may keep the back lamps on while the game is idle. The game program may control the lamps through the relay during play for dramatic effect.
