I have had my 1997 Junk Yard since 2005. I purchased it "Shopped" from eBay, and it's been an awesome machine.
Recently when I powered it on, the Back Box lights come on and it make the "Boing" sound that it typically does when you turn on the machine, but then NOTHING... No more sounds, the score board does not light up, and the play field does not light up. Additionally, the "Play" button which usually lights up yellow does not light either. I replaced the batteries (3) "AA" in the back box and cleaned a little battery acid leak on the far left battery area. I do not know what else to do, as after I changed the batteries, I had the same results. Only the Back Box lighting lights up and one "Boing" sound is heard and nothing more. Any help and direction in getting my favorite machine going is greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Kendall (Austin, Texas) |

If the battery acid damage got to the board chances are it took out the battery holder. Check for the 4.5 volts at the corners of the battery holder. Depending on the acid damage the cpu might need to sent away for testing.

I will check for the 4.5 volts accordingly and let you know how the test goes.
I guess it's safe to say the CPU Boards are very sensitive, as there was not much visible acid at all, other than that which was colocated with the battery holder? I appreciate the help and direction... definitely frustrating, but I should have changed those batteries much sooner honestly. I immediately opened my Elvis machine and changed them. It seems the STERN design is even more susceptible to a battery leak affecting the CPU / Mother Board... I'm glad there were no leaks there. |
