Default Minnesota Miracle!

I just have to post about the Vikings - Saints game from Sunday, some of you know about the origins of my Username, it's due to my love for Jimi Hendrix and the Minnesota Vikings, their defense was known as Purple Haze years ago.

I've been a diehard Vikings Fan since the Purple People Eaters in the 70's and you really have to be a diehard to still be a fan after all of the miracles and whacky stuff that has happened against this team since the 70's. They have been in the playoffs many times (I think they rank in the top 5 of all teams) so it's been fun but they are 0-4 in the superbowl, they have been favored to win a couple of them and the pregame mascot even crashed into the stands while parachuting in one of them.

I've been to many games played at other stadiums but never have been to a game in Minneapolis, my younger brother is also a Vikings Fan because I taught him right and we watched Sundays playoff game together.

The Vikes were winning 17-0 until about the end of the 3rd quarter and have the NFL's best defense. Then the weird stuff started to happen, the lead changed hands about 4 times in the last 3 minutes, the Saints had the lead with about 30 seconds to go and we were heartbroken but used to this stuff, with 10 seconds to go and 0 timeouts the Minnesota Miracle happened, This doesn't happen to the Vikings it always goes the other way! Oh My God, did that really happen? I'm still in shock and we were in disbelief, I've been occasionally crying at youtube vids of Fans reactions because that's how we felt. On to some videos, SKOL!

I just found out that some of the embedded videos from youtube won't work here, just have to click on the Watch on Youtube link that they provide.

There are video files of this game and every other Vikings game this year in sever different formats and options here:

Ah... brings back memories as an Eagles fan from a long time ago. Well, I started to jot some memories down, then realised that I've probably shared them here before. It was mainly about the Eagles from late 80's / early 90's, whatever.

Ironically, it looks like Minny-Philly is now happening for the conference championship, I think. Isn't it this very weekend!?

I haven't really followed the NFL for years, so I might be kinda outten ze loopen, as... the... the Dutch might say. Oh yes, the Dutch... :P

Sorry, gang! It looks like football morphs into paper-rock-scissors at the drop of a concussed wide receiver or quarterback...etc. By now you're probably aware that the Vikes roared down the field and scored on the opening possession against Philly, but were never heard from again (Whooda thunk it after the battle with the Falcons?), losing 38-7...and Tom Brady waited til the 4th qtr and loss of his Gronkness to totally embarrass the Jacksonville (We're ahead 20-10!) Jaguars 24-20. And with a throwing hand not yet healed from some accident!

Brady and Belicek (sic) probably found a way to lower the pressure in rocks...

Thanks for reading;

Gregg

Sprechen as a former Eagles fan-- I'm not nearly as excited as one might suspect about them going to the Soup Bowl. :P

Context-- after The Eagles won the championship three times -- twice in the late 48's and then once in 1960 (defeating Vince Lombardi's Packers, woot!) -- they made it to the "Super Bowl" championship a couple more times, but got paddled each time. Otay. :/

Now, my favorite Eagles squad of all time was the 92' team... something like that. They had Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Clyde Simmons, Andre Waters, Seth Joyner, Eric Allen and a bunch of other crazy badasses. It's still arguably the greatest defense in NFL/NFC/AFC history.

Sadly, without their unpredictable talented starting QB (Randall Cunningham, down for the season), they barely missed the playoffs at 10-6. And that was to be their final hurrah, with some of their key defenders either dying or retiring due to injury the very next year.

Later I recall Randall going to the Vikings and setting a bunch of records with one of the greatest OFFENSES of all time. I think it was maybe... mid to late 90's, perhaps?

Sorry - don't recall much once a given season is concluded; if I hadn't finally gotten cable TV recently, I might forget who was in this year's World Series (lots of Dodgers recaps, condensed games, and a few full-length contests from their June-to-August run of twenty ((or more?)) series won or split {none lost} during which they played .800+ ball...)

But, back to football: Randall Cunningham's resurgence one he was given an offense to run reminds me of John Elway's virtual life sentence in Denver, being unable to heave his pigskin much under Dan Reeves (Mike Shanahan corrected that, and Elway retired with his two consecutive Super Bowl victories); in fact, there had been a joke about Elway being unable to get into his house because someone had painted end-zone stripes on his front door!

Damn, sounds like today was an awesome day to be a football (and Eagles) fan.

So Jon-- your team got knocked off by the Super Bowl winner, fellow underdog, without their starting QB, and vanquisher of the most hated franchise in the game today.

That's a bit of alright, no...?

That was a heck of a game, I asked folks if it was actually a pro bowl game because neither team was playing defense. Congrats to the Eagles, I was getting tired of the Pats and Belichick winning too much, I blame the Browns for their success, I lived in Cleveland when he was hired as the Browns head coach and they fired him partly because of his media interactions...

Although I'm still upset about the Vikes loss the future looks bright, they made it to the NFC championship game with a backup QB and a backup running back.
