I was going through some of Sleepy/Arne's websites, and I found a few gems that he liked that I thought I would share. His musical taste was pretty good, and these selections bring back a lot of memories of life in the 1960's/1970's.

at the supermarket today (this is OH) i noticed they were carrying Hamm's lager in the cold section. i thought it had been discontinued many years ago, zoiks!
anyway i tried some and found it to be quite pleasant, sort of a smoother budweiser. i also remember that sleepy was the only one here who seemed to remember their classic jingle. mmm... hamm! |

Sorry to tune in late, but email notifications don't work until one subscribes to the thread, and I've been too busy with tree removal, dirt storage and nightmares about what foundation repairs will cost, to thoroughly surf the forums. This morning, an inspector from a contractor came out, was pleasant and receptive to alternative ideas (within limits) and left the impression that the whole thing may be financially survivable; when he / they have lined up all of the ducks, they will email me...
No denying the impact Rod Stewart has had on the biz, but I am part of a group that feels he did his best work with Jeff Beck on the album, 'Truth" in, I believe, '68. This may stem somewhat from their ('69, I believe) Shrine Exposition Hall concert, opened by Moody Blues and Ten Years After, at which he and Jeff walked by at a range of about 10 feet and I thought he was someone's wife...due to makeup applied seemingly by the pound (of course, Rudolph Valentino had the same affliction, so there's nothing new in the universe). Hearing "Nature's Way" after almost 50 years reminded me of the rotten so-and-so that borrowed my Spirit album and absconded with it. Damn Him. Damn, also, the klutz who returned my "Truth" album with a huge scratch (read, CHANNEL) on Side One. One doesn't recover from that shit! Cinnamon Boy ![]()

Wow, Gregg! You've had an awful lot of stressful crap to take care of lately. We have a lot of foundation problems here in New Orleans, and foundation repair is not something I would want to deal with. Sorry about all of that. Hope you get a good quote from the contractor.
I had no idea that Rod Stewart collaborated with jeff Beck. That's awesome! I tried to locate the Truth album on iTunes, but couldn't find any of the songs, except "I Ain't Superstitious," which I thought was pretty good, but then I've always loved the blues. I can't stand a lot of Rod Stewarts newer stuff, i.e. "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" Like you, I've always taken excellent care of my albums. I can imagine how pissed you must have been to have one of your albums returned with a scratch, and another not returned at all. Really makes you think twice about loaning anything to anyone, doesn't it? |

I must admit a certain fascination with abandoned places. There's a savage, forlorn beauty to them that rather bewitches me, these... decaying tombstones to their former glories. I've always thought this abandoned subway station in New York is beautiful. Abandoned sites have always intrigued me too. I always imagine what things were like in their hey day.

Wow what a thread, love all of the tunes, had to hook up the amp and tv (sennheiser headphones and tv) for the first time in years. I actually searched for the first tune (Nature's Way) from Spirit on the forums because I was sure I posted it before.
sleepy liked a lot of excellent stuff and this might be the best thread I've seen here, after listening to this thread I found my folder in my music collection called "sleepy", these are tunes that he posted or sent to me, I'm uploading them and will try to get videos when possible. http://www.pinballnirvana.com/sleepy/music/ Amazing Grace kicks it off by a Nawlin's Legend. Another thing I must add is that our old chatroom was packed with excellent tunes, sleepy and a bunch of other pinheads used to hang out to just listen when no one was there, I'll try to find the playlist, I have the tunes backed up, some great Aussie stuff from StevOz, lots of Beatles and a surf tune by the The Ventures (Peter Gunn) that sleepy loved. Will try to get youtube stuff but I'm currently uploading the old chat room tunes: http://www.pinballnirvana.com/chat_tunes From sleepy's excellent post from 4/16 more Jefferson Airplane: Last edited by JonPurpleHaze; 09-06-2017 at 07:34 PM. |

Jon- Thanks for posting these music links. The link to the file Sleepy's Music contains the playlist I used for Sleepy's memorial service. Today is the one year anniversary of his passing (Sept. 9, 2016), so I'm sitting here listening to the list again, while flooded with many memories of my brother. I appreciate your post so much!

It's too bad Bill (Lee Van Cleef) took off, recently. He was perhaps the biggest Sleepy appreciator in our scene. But maybe he'll return at some point and join the discussion.
@Kathy, If I may ask-- how long did you two spend growing up together? Did you get to talk / visit much in the years afterwards? Any fun stories you want to tell? ![]() |

Hey, all!
I noticed this thing some weeks ago, but with a new computer (refurbished, that is; it's only 15 months newer than what I had) presenting minor inconveniences, I almost let it slip by. Goldenvoice (whoever that is - I don't get out much) has put together a festival the likes of which... ...well, it sounds pretty good... June 23-4 (next weekend) at Brookside Park, Pasadena, CA, a veritable roster of huze hu on three stages of live music, with food, beer, and whatever else to buffer it all...and we know that Arne would say, "Hell, yeah - where's my bus pass! I was taken aback by the ticket cost, but then, at 71 years of age, 'you can't take it with you', so I haven't ruled it out yet. Some names on the menu: Aaron Neville, Alanis Morrissette, Jack White, Neil Young, Los Lobos, Robert Plant, the Bangles, the Pretenders, Third Eye Blind...and for my own piquing of interest, Jeff Goldblum with the Mildred Snitzer orchestra. I've always liked his comedic delivery, but never knew he was into music as well. Anyway, if anyone in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, South Carolina (my sister), or the midwest (some VP-ers with whom I've conversed - including in Ohio) are going to be cruising through some 91xxx zip codes this week, they'll have a chance for some traditional American culture absorbance. Here is the link that seems most connected: https://consequenceofsound.net/festi...-weekend-2018/ Anyone up for some political humor? There was this political guy...aw, never mind... Gregg
