I'm a bit distracted at the moment, but I'd like to return the favor by sharing some stuff.

Having grown a bit tired of the usual Xmas standards over the years, I've become a big fan of a more off-the-trail type of stuff.

The following internet stream is my go-to for holiday music. These are alternate takes on a wide range of classics, particularly ones from the 50's that one doesn't hear so much anymore. Most are remixed in the "modern lounge" style, meaning little touches of electronica, drums and such are added to give a "chillaxed" feeling. That probably sounds lame or corny to some, but this ain't no muzak!

Soma.FM's Xmas Lounge

This album is a beautiful mix of renaissance, baroque and classical. Tim Russ from Star Trek Voyager fame does the audio watermarking, but he's quite unobtrusive about it.

Magnatune's Xmas Compilation

Soma.FM also has some other Xmas streams which are a bit more rocking-out or naughty as the case may be, namely "Xmas in Frisco" and "Christmas Rocks." All formats are supported:

Christmas means music in our home .... not necessarily Christmassy music, just music!

We had a David Grey day yesterday, with Howard Jones and a little bit of Christmas music thrown in for good measure.

Today has been Craig David, Phil Collins and Pink Floyd. Soon to be Yes - Close to the Edge

Hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas time

Seasons grizzlies, Elton John!

Sorry, dunno who David Grey or Craig David are. Are they related to Daniel Craig...?

In terms of classic 70's - 80's rock that make good Xmas listening, I always loved that Pretenders song, "2000 Miles." (It's from that comeback album they made after both their guitarists suddenly passed away, "Learning to Crawl.")

Remember 2000 Miles?

On that note, maybe this is a good time to share my stone-cold favorite rendition of my favorite winter song, ever:

Bethan - In the Bleak Midwinter

And here's another rendition, lounge-style: (Bonus pts if you can identify the movie clip)
