Your problem is a very simple one, but there is a lot of very simple problems that it could be.
The only time I have saw that message is when the rom is not downloaded, put in the wrong place, not pointed to by VPM, or is the wrong revision. You may have missed a lot of steps, or just one. It's not possible to know. |

Right-Click on the Shortcut to Visual Pinball, or go to the folder that contains the Visual Pinball.exe (usually something like VPinball9.12.exe) and Right-Click on it and choose Run as Administrator.
As for Roms: Keep the ROM file Zipped, and if you unzipped the ROM, then you'll need to open the Roms folder and Delete the Unzipped loose ROM files. Only keep the Zipped ones in the Roms folder. When you start the table and get the error message, does the error message say that all of the rom files in the .zip are "OK" or does it list certain files as "Not Available"? Some ROMs.zip are incomplete and require a Parent ROM. Check the filename of the rom.zip in the error message and make sure you have that version of the Pinmame Rom.zip in the Roms folder. You can get the PinMame ROMs at ipdb.org by searching for the pinball machine by name. You can usually tell the parent ROM from the others. When you download a PinMame ROM.zip by name at ipdb.org, check the filesize. The parent ROM.zip will always be the largest ROM. The other ROMs are provided for other languages and custom features and are *almost* always smaller in file size/ download size. If all of this is correct and you still get the error, then open the vpinmame folder where the Roms folder should be, might be a "C:\Pinball" path to the folder, and double-click the vpinmame "Setup.exe". Then click the Setup Paths button and check the Roms path window. If this path as written leads to the wrong location for the Roms folder, then re-write it to point in the correct direction of the Roms folder as it exists on your hard drive or computer storage device that contains it. The easy way to choose the correct Roms Path is to click the grey button to the right of the Roms path textarea window in the Setup Paths menu and click your way to the folder in the folder/directory tree, then click OK. With this same Setup.exe, click the Test button. Choose the game that you know you have the Rom for and try running it. Or in this menu, click the Check Rom button and make note of what the error message lists, filename and / or missing romfiles in the zip. There are a very small number of games that need a special trick to run, so let us know if it works or not. Last edited by sleepy; 07-25-2012 at 05:22 PM. |
