Default 79 Stern

I just bought a stern Meteor that was not working. I replaced the rectifier board now all the lights work but none of the bumpers or flippers are working? The mpu test light stays on and does not blink. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

mpu board battery leakage is a major problem if it has happened and requires many parts replaced. if damage is extensive you prob want to replace mpu board with a newer version if your desoldering and soldering skills are less than excellent. check for voltages on mpu and rectifier board at test points using a dmm. caution some test points are over 100 volts.

Could be a problem with the CPU reset circuit. Carefully with a screwdriver and the machine turned on, short pin 39 and 40 (the top 2 left most pin) of U9 together for a moment. If the led begins to blink, the reset circuit needs to be rebuilt. I rebuild those old stern boards and would be happy to diagnose the board if you are willing to ship it.

Sounds like great advice. Spalmer - I'll test it out tonight and I may take you up on your offer. Looks like your are in my neck of the woods.

I would first disconnect the sound board from J5 on the mph and see if it boots. If there is a problem with the sound board or wiring to j5 it can cause an otherwise fine mpu to lock on.

Well I have tried both of the things you suggested but still nothing. I haven't check the voltage points. How can I find what the voltage should be at those points?

I got looking back at your first post. Are the feature lamps working in attract mode or just hte general lighting. When you turn the machine on, the MPU led should blank 7 times and then stay on dim. If all of this is happening, it is booting. If the game will coin up but no flippers or other solenoids are working, check two things.

1. There is a 1 amp fuse under the playfield close to the flippers. If it is blown you will get no flippers or solenoids. If that is not the problem, try wiggling the connectors on the driver board in the backbox. Stern/ Bally had the bright idea of running the voltage for flippers and bumpers from the Driver board, to the MPU and then back again. If it is a flakey connector, I will give you directions to upgrade the driver board with a jumper to prevent this issue.

go to IPDB scroll down to the schematics
click on schematics to bring it up in Adobe format
look at that to see the proper voltages to check for
