This is a pinball chatroom and is not associated with any particular forums, meaning it is hosted by the chat members themselves. No logs kept.

They talk about VP, FP, console pinball games or whatever else that spews from their mouths at any given time.

It is for having fun, rated R, you know, like the bar in Star Wars.

At this time, 6:50 EST, no one is banned from there, even my buddy Phil.

A quick update on the latest BBB chat saga.

Hurray, TMFP has stopped by a few times. Still waiting for SteveOZ or others to stop by and chat. There is usually someone always in the chatroom during USA hours. It probably averages about 5-8 chatters in the daytime and about 7 to 12 in evening.

Now for the drama this chatroom has apparently caused as you know the VP community seems to always play out like a huge soap opera.

We use to chat in the VPF chatroom with a nice video and Flash chat program, the chat started to lag and drop us and then it was broken and then the link from the VPF homepage would not get you into the room and then someone asked if they could put it on their server and try to sort out the problems. The VPF chat license or trial period or whatever was due to run out in about 2 months, so no problem, it would all be sorted out and taken care of in due time. Well, we waited and waited and asked and PM'd and called and even set up an appointment with VPF to remedy the situation. The 2 month period kept shrinking, 1 month, one week and then down to one day. SO we went and bought our own version of the Flash chat and bought a domain name and set up our own chatroom so we could continue chatting and have fun, seems like a simple solution. Not.

We seemed to have upset Paul (Noah_Fentz) in such a way that we are known as a bunch of ungreatful sods who hijacked his chatroom. At first, most of us chatters tried to explain exactly how everything went down and that we just want a chatroom to have fun in. But no, we are now chat hijackers and the Bigbangbar.org link to our chat is not allowed to be posted on VPF, it is filtered out and if you try to post the link in a broken way, it will be edited or the post will be completely deleted.

Still no big deal if you think about it, but some of these chatters are contributors to the scene, such as tables, art, images and helpful forum posts, which are enjoyed by all. Still no big deal, except some have become upset to the point of not logging into VPF anymore, so obviously this situation has escalated into another ridiculous VP soap opera where the best interest of the community is not taken into consideration.

you know, the other day i was thinking that there's only been one or two people in this scene who have been able to do a comfortably good job in all areas of running a leading-edge VP site- basically the loafer.

he was a people person, a forgiving and understanding judge of forum transgressions who also knew how to swing the hammer, plus a hard worker who truly cared about the functioning and health of a site. not perfect, of course, but you would think there would be quite a few people equally-qualified to lead. yet we've had basically *one* for VP in the whole decade+, with a couple people as decent runner-ups. it's really kind of incredible.

all other folks seem to have their deficiencies and/or sore spot, or spots. for example, i'm still not sure why JPH and paul hate each other so much, because they've both helped the scene a lot and have been superior to AJ, IMO.

I'm not one to argue. Yes I am, come to think of it, so here it is. The Loafer was no different, and in some ways the epitome. I'm not saying I did not like him, I liked you all, but getting you to do right when pride got in the way, pulling teeth falls way short.

In some ways Paul did some hijacking of his own. Putting tables on his site without permission, and bragging about the sites he had tables pulled from because they had no permission is just one small aspect of that. If it is not obvious that splitting up the community, does not even touch his intentions, then sunshine would not be obvious.

That carries over into the BBB chat room, example being my ban for just being there, which is a shame, but par for the course.

So, is the VPF chat now working, or no?

I tend to avoid chatrooms when my ISP is sloow dial-up, which is why I didn't use VPF chat, heavy front-end chat prog for sloow dial-up connections.
Is there an issue with the Flash 10 update that might straighten out the problem, if it's still ongoing?

I had a Flash update notice several weeks ago, which is why I mention it.

Very simple Ike. JPH flamed Paul for hijacking the vpforum domain name for commercial considerations (and snubbing PN), and Paul sees JPH/PN as undermining VPF.

Same software for the BBB chat, that said it works OK here with me shaped to 25kbps, so you don't need really great bandwidth.

yea, i get that those were the initiators, but my sense is that there's a little more to the story.

oh well, this is not reagan - brezhnev here, and the fate of the free world is not hanging in the balance. i probably shouldn't have brought it up, other than having a foolish weakness for such things.

Thanks Steve, but I don't want to circumvent Noah's forum filter though as I don't want to be be banned from VPF, I like his site.

I guess you have dropped by a few times now, but I have missed you as I sleep when you are active.

I think you are both confused. Steve perhaps by the screenshot and missing the bar. I too clicked the screenshot expecting a link. I doubt that 'Oz would suggest you do that there, but instead here.

Is PN link in the filter. I remember that soon after I met up with Paul at his site, I asked him about this. He said he did not like it, but that there was nothing stopping anyone and he would not censor it. I thought it honest and respectful, though I did not understand it.

No Phil not confused at all, nor is Bob, I was suggesting that he could get around the forum link censor if he so chose and I also wanted to put a link to the chat in this thread as I didn't see one here.

PN links are still allowed at VPF and if that changes I for one will be going around the censor and lobbying for the removal of any such censorship.

VP and it's related scene is owned by no site or site holder. As history has taught us push hard enough in that direction and you will lose the entire community.

Really Noah only has himself to blame for letting the original chat die in the first instance, the scene has always found a solution when one is lacking.

You can play pinball much better with velvet gloves then iron fists.

Thanks for the chat room, I used to chat a lot here and at the original VPforums. I'll plan on stopping in to chat sometime. PN also uses FlashChat, hey bob you hijacked my chat room which is far older than the fake vpforums, lol, just joking.


For the damned record, I do NOT hate Noah or VPF!!!
I'm glad they are around but they should be called something else, I don't go there because they've been on double secret probation for me! Perhaps I'll lift it before the end of this year.

Thanks for the chat room, it's kinda better than PN's Chat room but needs an mp3 player.

I really appreciate a chat room when folks are there and this place passed that part of the test. The video is an excellent addition to this FlashChat version, I got to see some dude play pinball live. My version of FlashChat is old but might be better, it has no video but has Tunes and some Radio, you guys need a modder.
My chat has a bot called Mibs, they got video and no bot or tunes.

Jon it was nice to meet you over there if nothing else, sorry you were having problems. Sometimes people get booted for no reason, and others can stay all night. Don't understand that. Maybe come in incognito so it doesn't recognize you?

I enjoyed the chat but had major connection issues for long periods of time, thought it was my firewall, disabled it and kept getting disconnected.
