Funny innit . . .

. . .how things change, I mean.

Six months ago I couldn't get enough pinball . . .today I couldn't give two fucks

All I care about are Limited Edition video games and . . .

. . .in six months it might be Lego Eiffel Towers or Leonard Cohen sonnets.

Then again . . .might be fuckin' pinball . . .

Let's go bowlin' dudes . . .

Just like a normal edition except you pay for for a load of useless free shit like "Making of" DVDs and shite-awful little figurines that go "meep-meep."

Only those of my shattered psyche (dramatic drum-roll) . . .

Nah, seriously . . .we have something in common. I cycled everywhere for nigh on 20 years. Net result . . .two concussions, one broken nose, one fractured thumb, one broken collarbone, arthritic knees and a fucked up back.

Apart from that . . .great fun - and cheap . . .and keeps you fit . . .and fucks up your health, long-term . . .

You are a little late with your eulogy Shadow....

Pinball died years ago.

It's true, bob . . .but it was more about the transience of interests that you've always had.

Having said that, comic books and video games are two things that I retain a regular passion for . . .probably because both are still more prolific than ever in day-to-day life. . . .

. . .whereas the passion for pinball and arcade machines tends to wax and wane which, I suppose, is a reflection of their broader appeal in this consumer age . . . .

Physically, maybe, but the spirit and excitement is alive and well thanks to the talented authors here and the enthuiasts on this board. It is through you that we can re-live a part of our past and experience something we never had a chance to do.

I bowled for 25 years, including some pro tournaments. What do I have to show for it? Screwed up knees, and a right hand that goes numb VERY easily, along with decreased gripping power. I suppose it is like this in all sporting endeavors. You enjoy what you do, but the long term physical effects are staggering.

Hey Rockwizard, your numb hand and weakening grip sounds to me like you could have carpel tunnel syndrome, nothing serious but nerves in the wrist from constant use ( like bowling especially if it was your bowling hand ) need medical intervention
as inflamation presses on the nerves that causes the numbness. Have a look in Dr Google about it to learn more. Like I said mate , nothing to have a stroke over as it can be fixed easily and very quickly.

Matt

having worked the NYC (USA) garment district as a truck driver for 10 years I also have rotater cuff damage in both my shoulders and carpal tunnel in both my wrists (from slinging coats from racks onto rope loops in my truck!) so I feel fer ya' with the carpal pain and numbness! Now I can't walk down the street and hold a coffee cup in my hand without my entire arm going numb, same goes for driving, I must constantly switch arms on the steering wheel to avoid them going numb. sigh...the things we do to ourselves...

True, nothing to have a stroke over, just disgusting. Throw in diabetes...not a nice combination. If Katrina hadn't wiped out everything, I'd give bowling a try again. I've seen what is out there, and despite the fact I don't really crank the ball, I could hold my own due to my knowledge of the game(I wouldn't be going to the bag after throwing a bad shot or two!). Besides, the extra money is always nice.

Back on topic.....the ONLY place that had machines closed a few months ago, so.........the only thing left is well WORN machines in a bowling alley or bar. That REALLY sucks.

sadly i must agree there. I live in Eastern PA, and there are NO arcades anywhere near me. The (New) Jersey shore is the only place that still has some, but they are strictly seasonal, meaning that the arcades (especially in the Wildwood boardwalk area) are not open yet. so I stay here and at vpforums.org, building my originals...playing other peoples pins too...
