Replacing the 40 pin interconnector is probably the first and best step to do on a Williams machine of that age because of all the data lines that go through it. Recapping or replacing all the electrolytic caps is important also for reliable operation because of their Life span. Also a good precautionary measure is to add an inline fuse to the input of both of the surface mounted bridge rectifiers. Without these fuses if short occurs on the bridge input, a short will show on the transformer secondary, and possibly damage the transformer before its primary fuse blows.
