Chet
Meek's Page of Puns,
... word plays, catchy phrases, and other foolishness.
... ... (This edition is as of: 2 October 2007).
I take no credit for this material. I am only the collector. Most have
come from the Usenet Newsgroup alt.humor.puns; but others have crept in
from misc.writing, alt.callahans, humor mailing lists and other contributors.
This page is now posted in five parts:
A, B, C, D and E; and its little brothers are versions 2, 3 etc. They are
approximately the same size, each, and hold about 1/5th of what the original
PUNS file held. Please load only one part today. Then, you can come back
another day for another piece. Thanks. - Chet.

-
Judi Wolinsky's Word
Play index lists dozens of sites which features fun with words. Good
stuff, Judi! WARNING: don't go here unless you have all afternoon!
-
Simon Champion's Bad
Puns page. Lots of good stuff: all good clean family fun.
Word Origins, Meanings and Origins of Slang or Idiomatic Words and Phrases,
Word Games, Fun with Words, etc.
-
World Wide Words
by Michael B. Quinion deals mainly with word origins, has several sections
and distributes a free weekly mailing list. Details are at the entry page
above.
-
A Word A Day
(AWAD) is a mailing list which delivers a word and its definition every
day. It also provides a robot to whom you can send words, and which returns
you the definition. The FAQ is well organized and very informative.
-
Richard Lederer's Verbivore.
From his entry page - "Welcome to the web site woven for wordaholics, logolepts,
and verbivores. Carnivores eat meat; herbivores eat plants and vegetables;
verbivores devour words. If you are heels over head (as well as head over
heels) in love with words, tarry here awhile to graze or, perhaps, feast
on the English language."
-
OneLook
Reverse Dictionary is a ton of fun. You supply the definition or concept,
and it returns the word. You can use filters and wild cards to get words
of a certain length or containing certain letters: great fun for crossword
puzzle fans.
